COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore defensive midfielder Roman Puglise was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in a release made by the conference offices Tuesday afternoon. The honor comes after a career week for the Lorton, Va. native as he helped No. 2 Maryland to a pair of wins and a 5-0 start in 2019.

Additionally, sophomore Logan Wisnuaskas was named to the USILA Division I Team of the Week after totaling 13 points on six goals and seven assists the past week.

Puglise was rock solid for the Terps the past week, scooping 12 ground balls and causing a turnover in wins over #16 Colgate and Navy. Puglise was instrumental in helping the Maryland faceoff unit finish 70% (32-46) from the X the past two games, while opposition averaged just 7.5 goals against the Terps.

Puglise finished with five ground balls and a caused turnover, while holding the 16th ranked Raiders to just six goals on February 19. He followed it up with a career-high seven ground balls in Maryland's win over Navy, helping hold the Midshipmen to under 10 goals.

UMD currently ranks 10th in the nation in goals allowed per game (8.4) and faceoff win percentage (60.7%).

Wisnauskas did it all against No. 16 Colgate, finishing with a hat trick and two assists, while notching a career-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers. He turned in another banner day against Navy, recording a career-best eight points on three goals and a career-high five assists to lead No. 3 Maryland to its fifth straight win.

Puglise and the second-ranaked Terrapin will take their unbeaten record on the road this weekend when the team faces No. 17 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. on March 3. Faceoff is slated for noon on ESPNU.
