5. Running Back

With Roman Hemby moving to Indiana, there's suddenly not much proven talent in the backfield. But redshirt freshman Nolan Ray aces the look test and should give the Terps a more consistent big-play thread. Freshman Dejuan Williams is a high-level talent who showed promise in a bit of action this season, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. The staff feels good about them as a top two, but depth is needed with Hemby leaving and Colby McDonald out of eligibility. Incoming recruit Iverson Howard is talented but unproven and there's not a power back on the roster, so I think they'll add a veteran running back.
Projected remaining additions: 1

4. Wide receiver

Maryland has addressed this spot with one proven playmaker in Oklahoma transfer Jalil Farooq and a veteran with upside in Tennessee transfer Kaleb Webb. But the depth chart was barren here, with all-American Tai Felton and standout Kaden Prather gone, along with both tight ends. There's one returning player on the roster who had more than 11 catches or 300 receiving yards this season, and that's Octavian Smith with 30 catches for 315 yards. Smith has the tools to develop into a good No. 2 receiver, but it's not guaranteed and there's little depth, so I expect them to add at least one more receiver.
Projected remaining additions: Two

3. Cornerback

Maryland's cornerbacks struggled all season. Six have already left in the portal, clearing space for what Locksley hopes will be significant upgrades. Early addition Jamare Glasker was arguably Wake Forest's best corner last year and should be an upgrade. A few freshmen they expect to be ready to help next year will return in Brayden Lee, Kevin Humes ad Lloyd Irvin. But there's no proven depth.
Given their struggles this season and the departure of potential NFL Draft pick Glen Miller, who played corner and safety, they need a bunch more here.
Projected remaining additions: Two

2. Offensive line

The offensive line's struggles this season have been discussed a lot, deservedly. Maryland had one of the worst front-fives of any major conference team. Locksley has added one potential starter in Akron transfer Jayvin James, who chose the Terps over last solid list of other schools. He earned a 98.0 pass blocking efficiency rating from Pro Football Focus, allowing 10 pressures all season.
They're high on young linemen like Terez Davis and Michael Herschey, but they can't afford to go into the season without an abundance of options. Central Connecticut State tackle Rahtrell Perry is a top choice, but he has a star-powered offer list. Other names are likely to emerge.
Projected remaining additions: 2

1. Defensive line

The defensive line was hit hard by attrition. Veterans Quashon Fuller and Tommy Akingbesote are out of eligibility and Jordan Phillips is NFL Draft-bound. One of their top anticipated replacements, Lavon Johnson, entered the portal. Dillan Fontus looks like a player and should take one of those spots, and former four-star Neeo Avery is ready to become a mainstay. But there's little proven depth here and while they added massive St. Francis (Pa.) run-stopper Eyan Thomas in the portal, there's never a guarantee the FCS-to-Big Ten move will translate. Locksley needs to import some high-level beef at Maryland's neediest unit.
