Alright, so with Scott having a big day as he introduces his new daughter into the world, you get me for a fall camp notebook.
Tonight was the first evening practice of fall camp with another scheduled for next Tuesday night. We got to see a little more than usual today — about 27 minutes — and rather than just give my opinion on each position group based on the little drills we got to see, I decided to just video tape some of what I saw from the QBs and WRs so you can see for yourself. I'll also provide a few notes below.

Quarterbacks
- As Scott said in one of his previous fall camp notebooks, this is without a doubt the best QB room we've had in College Park in quite some time. They all look good throwing the ball in drills and each have their "wow" moments, but I'd say the biggest difference between them is simply consistency. A few of the guys seem to just be able to deliver a good ball to WRs more consistently than the others. Jackson, Pigrome and Legendre all showed a considerable amount more consistency than DeSue or Bort. I was particularly impressed with Legendre and Piggy today with some of the throws they made. Legendre truly has special mechanics for a true freshman. His footwork and throwing motion are well beyond his years.
- Only got to see WRs run skeleton routes today with no DBs covering them, but they did run a variety of short, intermediate and long routes so that was good. Of the group, Dontay Demus stands out like a sore thumb because of his physical stature and his ability to catch the ball well with his hands. He's just a slightly above average route runner but he runs like a gazelle, especially for his size, so he's very hard to contain. Darryl Jones made a few really nice grabs today and is another wideout that displayed some soft, reliable hands. Brian Cobbs and Carlos Carriere also impressed because of their consistency. Cobbs could be the best route runner on the team.
- The highlight of the day was getting to see some tackling/ball security drills where guys were able to get a little physical with each other. One takeaway from this was the emphasis the Terps coaches were putting on ball security. A few underclassmen weren't tucking the ball away on this drill and they got an ear full from Locksley and Montgomery — a few of them even had to do extra push ups for the blunder. This shows me the coaching staff's emphasis on the fundamentals and little details that win you football games. Things like not securing the ball correctly will not be tolerated by this staff.
- Saw NFL scouts at practice today from the Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, and Baltimore Ravens.
- I believe as of the last notebook that was written up we had Lorenzo Harrison, Marcus Minor, Malik Jackson and Jordan Mosley all sidelined with injuries. Minor and Mosley were back in full pads today and are a go. LoLo is obviously still nursing a hamstring injury, doubt we'll see him much, if at all, for the remainder of camp. And still no sign of Malik Jackson, the freshman TE from the DMV.
