I was there. At 430. Other than autographs nothing really started til 6pm though.
It was a fun night however. Very glad I went. . The crowd was Ok maybe half full?
But not at big as I had hoped and not as energetic as I thought it might be for two teams with VERY high expectationsthis year. I hope apathy hasn't set in already. I remember I went to MM the one year Stevie Franchise was hereat Cole and the place was much more electric. The magician was good I thought,
Cheerleaders cheered, band played. Gymkana always is energetic but it really looked
like they could use some new mats and equipment. Player intos always the highlight.
I think Brenda actually got the loudest ovation (semi-standing) which made me feel good
that the fans recognize her tenure and accomplishments. On the ladies side the freshman from
Connecticut showed me she will a force from the jump. I think they will miss Lexi though.
But should be another great season for them in the BIG. On the men's side I did think
Cheko looked noticeably bigger. I thought Melo was Melo. Hit a 3 and made a nice drive to the hoop.
Dion missed some open 3's that he needs to make. Diamond Stone knows what to do with the ball.
He looked good at both ends...but made a nice jump hook and another nice baseline move.
Suilimon looked very comfortable handling the ball. Didn't seem very interested in scoring and
played tough D as expected. In fact I thought for a scrimmage like this.....which is usually just run and gun.
They did seem to play D and ran some sets. But IMO opinion...Robert Carter Jr was the man last night.
Big and strong. Powerful down low. Blocked a shot by Bender on D.He missed his outside shots badly...but made a nice jump hook, hit a shot off the dribble and did seem to be the most vocal of the Terps. I was impressed. To me he did stand out above the other big men. It was only
a short 10 minute scrimmage...but I was excited to be there. Left feeling that WOW...we have a LOT
of talent and depth. It will be so very interesting for the season to play out. I hope the recruits that were there came away impressed. Especially Kegler and Larson. Anyone else there????
