Locksley says although Penn St. had a setback last week, they have been playing well lately in all three phases and they are looking forward to the game.
Says it is going to take some time to build the PSU game into a rivalry. But rivalries are started by being competitive on the field and they got off to a good start with that last year winning in Happy Valley.
On Hackenberg, he's accurate and they need to do a good job of getting him off of his spot. Says they use a lot of quick passing stuff and they are going to have to be prepared for that.
On the changes made, with the players it's about having guys go out and have fun. The team has an underdog mentality, no one expects them to win. But they are going to go out and play hard and play with passion and have the mentality like they are in the backyard having fun and proving people wrong.
Says over the next six weeks, things are a little different with him going in and out of offensive meetings as well as special teams, etc.
Says the players are excited to play in front of the Baltimore fans. As for recruiting, says there are a lot more people that come into this area now and recruit. So a win will obviously help
On James Franklin, he's an enthusiastic guy and he's matured as a coach over time. Says he respects the job he's done since he left Maryland. But it's not about James Franklin, its about the team going out and beating the Penn State team.
On the offense, says they aren't going to be one dimensional, they are going to have to throw the ball to win the game. On Cockerille, says he asked to be moved to fullback earlier this year, but he's back at QB now. And obviously they will tailor the offense around whoever is under center.
Says Maryland has the best of both worlds being right in between the DC and Baltimore markets. But anytime you get the chance to play in Baltimore and play in a pro venue, it's a chance to extend the brand throughout the state. And it's a great opportunity for the team.
On having fun, says it shouldn't be mistaken that this means they are going to go out and make mistakes or that they were not having fun before, but he wants the team to take on the right mentality. Says today they took the scout team offense and scout team defense and let them go at it. And they let them play music before team meetings. But it starts with Locksley having high energy at practice and showing them the mentality they want to have.
On auditioning for this job, says he's not seeing this opportunity like that. Says you don't look at the scoreboard until the game is over. He's a big believer in preparing for the job you have, not the job you want. Says they have had three really good practices this week and they are excited to go out and compete and play football in its purist form.
On this being a second season, you have to look at each game as a one game season and not worry about what happened earlier and not look ahead too far. Says again that they have made some tweaks
Penn State's front seven is one of the best in the nation and this will be the third straight game of facing one of the best in the nation. But they know they are going to face top defenses week in and week out. And they will do some things like chip their d-linemen and some other things to try to help the quarterback out.
On playing in Baltimore, says the only thing that will really change is taking the bus up to a slightly further away hotel. But meetings will be here and they will do a walk through at the stadium and that will be the only change.
