NCAA TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINALS PREVIEW
Three Big Ten teams advanced to the 2015 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament Quarterfinals, which will get underway on Saturday, May 16. Ohio State will take on Denver at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Saturday, while Johns Hopkins and Maryland will both play at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., on Sunday, with the Blue Jays taking on Syracuse and the Terrapins facing North Carolina.
Johns Hopkins advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating host Virginia, 19-7, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Jays earned a share of the Big Ten Championship, and won the inaugural Big Ten Tournament title. Johns Hopkins has won six straight games and seven-of its last eight. Sunday's game will mark the second meeting of the season between the Blue Jays and top-ranked Syracuse.
Maryland recorded an 8-7 win over Yale in the first round of the NCAA Championship, and will look to advance to the Final Four for the second straight year and fourth time in the past five seasons. The Terrapins shared the Big Ten title with Johns Hopkins, and continue to lead the nation in scoring defense at 6.63 goals/game. Maryland recorded a 10-8 win over North Carolina in Santa Ana, Calif., on March 21.
Ohio State posted a 16-11 win at Duke in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals for the third time in school history. The Buckeyes, who earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship, own a 14-9 all-time series advantage over Denver. Ohio State defeated the Pioneers, 13-11, at Ohio Stadium on March 14.
The Division I semifinal and championship games will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia May 23-25. The national semifinals will be televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 1 p.m. on May 23. The championship game will appear on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. on May 25.
