since I’ve posted here. Gotta go all the way back to when the Orioles dropped all their games in the playoffs. Got disgusted and decided to take a sports break. The Terps losing to the Illini and NW didn’t help matters either. Really thought we’d win nine regular season games this year, but it just didn’t happen. That’s sports I guess.
Reading today that Lia has opted out of the bowl game is infuriating as hell to me. It would’ve been nice to announce this news right after the last game. Had he done that, perhaps us fans who have already bought airfare, rental cars, hotel rooms, and game tickets could’ve said the heck with it and stayed home. We buy tickets to come see YOU play and to root on our BEST players.
With kids moving on to other schools, getting bigger paydays, or announcing they’re not playing in the bowl game, what is the value for us as fans to even attend? I’m not seeing it, save for going to a new city and to check off another team who I’ve wanted to see in person for years.
With that said, college football is a mess and it’s only getting worse. Payouts to players needs to be regulated. If it’s not, then only the money schools get better.
If I was ever in a decision-making position in the NCAA, the one thing I’d be a stickler on is the play requirement. No player would be allowed to opt out of a game by his/her choosing. You got a $100,00 education for free, so how about living up to your end of the bargain and playing the darn game?
