NEW YORK – Former Maryland men's basketball standout Kevin Huerter was named to the 2018-19 NBA All-Rookie Second Team Tuesday.
Huerter is the first Terrapin to earn NBA All-Rookie honors since Steve Francis was named to the First Team in 1999-00. Francis was the Co-Rookie of the Year that season with Elton Brand.
Huerter is part of an exclusive list of former Terps to be named to the All-Rookie team, joining Francis, Joe Smith (1995-96), Walt Williams (1992-93), Buck Williams (1981-82) and John Lucas (1976-77).
Selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Huerter averaged 9.7 points, 2.9 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 27.3 minutes of action during an impressive rookie campaign.
Huerter was impressive from deep range, leading the entire NBA in 3-pt percentage from 27-40 feet (41.3%).
The Clifton Park, N.Y., native spent two seasons in College Park (2016-18), earning All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten honors.
