You have zero knowledge of this situation and speculation that Larry Johnson is just that speculation like with calling into question the type of players Maryland recruits compared to PSU.

Concerning Franklin never being a part of something like the handshake:

To say there's friction between the two programs, the two coaching staffs and the players would be an understatement. Last season there was some sort ofconfrontation between Groh and Maryland assistant coach and recruiting coordinator James Franklin on the field at Byrd Stadium during warm-ups.
Before the game last season, which was held in College Park, an argument between Virginia coach Al Groh and Maryland wide receiver coach James Franklin led to a scuffle between the two teams at midfield.
So apparently Franklin may have never seen it, but he was a part of it. What kind of coach who chides Maryland for not doing a handshake fights at midfield? Isn't he the adult in charge of the players? Where was his sportsmanship and control?
