COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland Terrapin Scholarship Fund Board of Directors named head coach Randy Edsall the winner of the inaugural Commitment to Academic Excellence Award, which will be given annually to a coach, coaching staff or team that exemplifies the highest level of commitment to student athlete academic performance.
“Coach Randy Edsall has made a significant commitment to improving the academic performance of student athlete members of the football program,” Steve Leonard,President of the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund Board of Directors said. “Serving as the academic liaison for the football program is unprecedented in Division I football and shows the effort Coach Edsall is willing to go to achieve championships in the classroom.”
Since coming to the University of Maryland in 2011, Edsall has placed a great emphasis on academic performance, leading the football program to all-time highs in Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
