BALTIMORE, Md. – Buddies Maryland announced that Maryland Head Football Coach Randy Edsall will serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2015 Best Buddies Friendship Walk on Saturday, May 2rd at the University of Maryland, College Park’s Ritchie Coliseum. It is the fifth straight year that Edsall has served in this capacity.
The Friendship Walk begins at 9:00 a.m. with registration and refreshments. The annual event benefits Best Buddies Maryland, a nonprofit that creates one-to-one friendships, leadership opportunities and integrated employment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Best Buddies Friendship Walk consists of a one and half mile walk around the College Park campus beginning at 10 a.m. Following the walk, there will be food and the annual Friendship Games inside Ritchie Coliseum. Coach Edsall and members of his team led by senior, offensive lineman Evan Mulrooney will be on hand to volunteer, take pictures and greet participants during the walk.
Thanks to Coach Edsall’s participation, the Best Buddies Maryland Friendship Walk has raised more than $600,000 in the last five years and has seen more than 3,000 walkers take part. The organization is striving to raise $200,000 this year from this event; and has already raised more than $175,000. All participants who raise more than $50 will receive an official event t-shirt.
