This game is a big game because it's the next one on the schedule, it has recruiting implications, etc.
Morgantown is a tough place to go into. It's sold out and they know it will be loud. They have been pumping in crowd noise during practice and they know it's going to be tough.
Says they were much improved vs. USF in passing game but still have a lot left to improve on. Knows they have to be able to throw the ball effectively and efficiently. They have some weapons to get the ball to and those guys can make plays if they get the ball.
Says they are still very, very young on defense. No returning starters up front or at linebacker and AJ Hendy is starting for the first time. But they are improving each week and as long as they keep doing that they will be able to improve as a team. They will continue to play a lot of guys as the season goes on as needed and to continue building depth.
On communication between defensive backs, they need to get better and can't let guys run free down the sideline. And you have to put your eyes where they belong and if you do that, you can stop those big plays.
One of the biggest things with the offensive line has been the communication. Mulrooney has done a good job of making the calls up front. And guys have worked hard on using good technique. It all starts with good communication and then moving your feet. And guys take pride in not wanting to allow the QB get hot. But the guys have handled movement up front well and they know they'll have a challenge vs. WVU.
Says Jefferson Ashiru is becoming more comfortable in the defense and having played as much as he has, they expect him to improve each week.
On sitting down with Sean Davis, there are different ways to address different guys. And to get him back on track and do it in an environment where they know it's a teaching moment. Sometimes kids think it's about making plays, but sometimes if you just do your job and use good technique big plays will happen for you. Like getting his head around on his one pick last week.
Going on the road, you just have to stay focused and worry about what's going on in between the lines and not what happens outside the lines. And Bowling Green should have helped them prepare for some of what they will see Saturday. And they practiced well this morning. But they just have to go out and play well.
On there being extra motivation after last year's game, says they don't need extra motivation. Every season is different and you only get 12 games to make the most of your opportunities, not 28 like basketball.
On finishing up non conference schedule, they want to get better each week regardless of who they are playing. And soon the conference schedule will begin earlier.
