It's good to win. Appreciate the effort the players put forth this week. Plenty of things they did well and plenty of things they need to work on still.
On defense, difference was guys doing their job. All 11 guys work as one and it's easy to improve. Says they did a better job of communicating today, also. And did a good job holding them to just 60 yards passing.
On Caleb, says everyone wants to praise him because of the stats, but as a QB you can't throw pics that lead to points. So even though the numbers were good, he needs to do a better job in the huddle and needs to curb the turnovers. Can't have the lapses they had today moving forward. All you can do as a coach is show him what he needs to do throughout the week and hope he does it.
There are times where it's ok to take the risk and thread the needle, but other times you can't. Because in some games, those INTs could kill us.
Says the throw to Avery Edwards down the seam for the TD was a great throw. Says the ref almost didn't throw the flag it had been so long since he had seen someone spike the ball.
If you can have a play action passing game it helps and now you can get behind guys and get vertical. It's been beneficial offensively.
When you can effectively use play action it makes a huge difference.
On Sean Davis, he's a guy that went out this week and worked on his fundamentals and techniques. Put last week behind him and was a little more aggressive this week. But that's the way Sean Davis can play. On the one INT, he got his body turned around and went up on the high point of the ball and got the pick. He rose to the challenge, he's a competitor.
Says he knew Wes was going to get ejected because he led with the crown on a defenseless player. But kids get out there in the heat of the moment and sometimes things happen. His technique was just bad. Says it's another teachable moment and they will go over it.
Says the penalties are totally unacceptable. It's disappointing because they stress those things all the time, but sometimes guys just seem to be trying to hard. But as a staff they just need to keep talking about it and repetition and they will clean it up.
On the offensive line not allowing a sack, says it's just great communication as a unit. Says it also helps from a technique stand point. And both lines get after it in practice and that helps. We know it's going to get harder each week but good fundamentals and good technique will help.
Says the freshmen relish the rolls they are playing. Used Jarvhis Davenport and Darnell Savage today. Will probably get Isaiah Davis in there, too. He has confidence on whoever they put in there to do their job. They are going to replace guys that aren't going as hard as possible and they will get a few reps.
The defense this week understands how hard you have to play each time out. But this game is over with and now they have to prepare for next week.
Told the guys last night, he needed them to go out and play every play like it's their last play. It's hard to win at this level, no matter who you play.
