chatted with a guy that played fullback at Alabama and he was telling me about how often they scored when plays broke down and it was purely based on them having better athletes, not playbook knowledge or fundementals, just players winning the individual battles.

I'm wondering if the transition from coaching at UCONN and being a 1-AA coach is impacting his talent development. It seems rather weird to me that the only players that he develops are a high number of walk-ons and 2 stars that seem to exceed expectations and develop into starters (Dunn, Minter, Davis etc...) and the higher recruited caliber players don't seem to live up to their rankings minus likely.

Edsall has continued to show his beliefs that putting the "best guys" on the field are in his opinion the most consistent. In my opinion he too often plays the guys he feels won't lose you games, and in big time football, you need to play the guys that you have a chance to win with, even if it is a bigger risk.

Perry can't move the ball, he might not throw picks, but he doesn't throw TD's either, Caleb often throws it to the other team, but he also has the capability of moving the ball and leading scoring drives. Which is a gamble you have to take.

On the o-line, we have a starter with very limited upside yet he knows the playbook and is "more consistent" than our 5-star redshirt freshman lineman. It appears to me another situation where he is playing not to lose, why not play the guy who has the potential to spring a good play even if he makes a few mistakes along the way? If you were running a company you wouldn't hire the guy who does subpar work but does it consistent, as opposed to the guy who oozes potential and could produce better results.

we aren't playing the best athletes on our team, we might not have a top talented roster in the B1G, but some of the guys we trot out there on Saturdays give us less of a chance than others. I have no problem losing to BG by 21, I have no problem getting waxed by better teams, if the team goes out and gives max effort with the right players playing with the best chance to win, it's been too long of a low risk / low reward program and its time to change that and take chances.
