COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland junior wide receiver DJ Moore has been named First Team All-Big Ten, the league announced on Wednesday. Junior left tackle Derwin Gray and junior running back Ty Johnson earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors.
Moore, who led the Big Ten in nearly every major receiving category for the majority of the 2017 season, is the first Terp wide receiver to earn first team all-conference since Torrey Smith (ACC) in 2010. Stefon Diggs was named Second Team All-Big Ten in 2014.
Moore is the first Terp, regardless of position, to earn first team all-conference since William Likely III and Yannick Ngakoue in 2015.
One of just three wide receivers in the country with 80 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, Moore led the Big Ten in total receptions (80) and receiving yards (1,033). His 80 receptions, which is tied for seventh most nationally, set a new Maryland single-season record for catches in a season.
Moore has been remarkably consistent for the Terps, ending his junior campaign having started 35 straight games and making a catch in 33 consecutive contests.
Gray was voted Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by both the league coaches and the media, while Johnson was selected by the media members that cover the league.
Gray was an anchor on Maryland’s offensive line, starting all 12 games at left tackle. He helped the Terps rush for 1,940 yards and 161.7 yards per game. Gray, a Washington, D.C. native, blocked his first career field goal, which was scooped and ran back for a 71-yard touchdown, in Maryland’s win at Texas.
Johnson led the Terps and ranked eighth in the Big Ten with 875 rushing yards. The junior averaged 6.4 yards per carry, which ranked third in the conference, and his 132.7 all-purpose yards per game average was fourth best in the league.
Johnson surpassed 2,000 career rushing yards on November 11, becoming the 13th player in Maryland history to accomplish the feat. His 1,592 all-purpose yards in 2017 ranks seventh best in Maryland single-season history.
A total of seven Terps garnered All-Big Ten honors in 2017, tied for the second most since Maryland joined the conference in 2014.
