NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Maryland offensive lineman Derwin Gray was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 7th round (219th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Gray is the fourth Terp to be selected in this year's draft, following Darnell Savage Jr. (first round; Green Bay Packers), Byron Cowart (fifth round; New England Patriots) and Ty Johnson (sixth round - Detroit Lions).
Maryland has had four players selected in the draft for the first time since five Terps went in the 2009 draft.
Gray, a two-time Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection, anchored a Maryland offensive line that helped the Terps rush for 230.2 yards per game in 2018, a mark that ranked third in the Big Ten and tied for 18th nationally. The Terps rushed for over 300 yards in a game five times and over 400 yards twice last season.
Gray, a Washington, D.C. native, started 25 games during his career, including 22 starts during the last two season. He was recognized with the James M. Tatum Memorial Award as Maryland’s best lineman in 2017.
