ATLANTA, GA -- Senior safety Dante Trader Jr. has been named to the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the organization announced today, August 1.

College Football's Premier Award for Community Service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel's commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy's founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season. This year's Watch List consisted of a record 111 nominees representing players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

Trader Jr. was also a Wuerffel Trophy nominee last season. This year, he has already been selected as an AFCA Good Works Team Nominee.

Announced recently, the Wuerffel Foundation partnered with Allstate to unify college football's highest community service honors. Eleven of the Watch List nominees will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be Allstate Wuerffel Trophy semifinalists.

Trader Jr. has been a staple in the community throughout his time in College Park. The Delmar, DE native co-hosts the One Speed Podcast, a podcast that addresses topics beyond football. Additionally, he helped organize and lead the One Speed Backpack Drive last year, raising over $10,000 for it and supplying over 200 fully-loaded backpacks for J.C. Nalle Elementary School in Washington, D.C. A 2023 CSC Academic All-District honoree, Trader Jr. also frequently takes part in community service events where he works with underprivileged youth in the DMV area.

The senior has tallied 131 tackles (86 solo) and four interceptions across 25 games in three years in College Park. He has earned preseason All-Big Ten honors from Athlon Sports and Phil Steele ahead of the 2024 season as well as being named to the Shrine 1000 Watchlist.

The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12th. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place February 1, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
