Chol Marial took an official visit to Arizona State last week and had planned on also visiting Grand Canyon University (also out in Phoenix, Dan Majerle is the coach). Well, after the ASU visit, Chol decided to cancel the GCU visit and is said to be choosing between Maryland and ASU in the near future.
This would usually seem to mean he is likely headed to ASU.
Not so fast, my friends.
ASU offered a JUCO forward Saturday, Andre Allen, who is currently at Arizona Western and was committed to play for Nate Oates at Buffalo. He already has a visit to ASU set up for this week and I'm hearing he's all but a done deal to the Sun Devils.
I've also heard from one source that spoke with an ASU assistant that they weren't sure about Marial simply due to the injuries and the fact they need someone who can come in and be a major part of the rotation Day 1 and they are worried about whether or not Marial can do that. Maryland has the luxury of having Stix, the Mitchell twins coming in and guys like Donta Scott and Ricky Lindo. So Turgeon can bring Chol along slowly.
But as of late tonight, the latest I'm hearing out of Tempe is that ASU will take only one of Allen and Marial and it sounds like Allen is all but a done deal. So assuming grades, health and everything else checks out for Maryland, Chol could very well be headed to College Park.
