Maryland basketball commit Chris Jeffrey's stellar play earns him a big jump in the recruiting rankings
Maryland basketball recruit Christian Jeffrey is enjoying a stellar senior year, averaging more than 24 points and eight rebounds per game while leading Mt. Zion Prep (Md.) to a 16-2 record against high-level competition. The future Terps guard was rewarded for his production on Wednesday, when he made a big jump in the rankings.
Jeffrey climbed 26 spots from No. 95 in the last 247Sports 2025 basketball prospect rankings to No. 69. National recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins included him in his look at the players who jumped the most spots in the rankings. He wrote:
"Christian Jeffrey has been a standout performer at several of the events 247Sports has attended since our last update. Our Director of Scouting Adam Finkelsteim describes Jeffery as a one the most competitive, powerful and physically aggressive guards in the country. He'll be loved by the Terrapins for his ability to dictate winning."
Travis Branham was also impressed by a December viewing of the Brooklyn native, who's built more like an NFL running back than a high-school basketball player.

Viewed as a combo guard earlier in his high school career, he has the looks of a rock-solid Big Ten-point guard.
From Sam Jane's recent profile of Jeffrey:
"Jeffrey is an ultra-competitive and consistently productive power guard. He stuffs a stat sheet like few other guards in the country and averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and almost 2 steals per game during the EYBL season. He has good backcourt size at 6-foot-3, a very strong build, and plays with both a high-motor and extreme physicality. His intangibles and leadership skills are off the charts as he sets the tone on both ends of the floor.
While he's not a conventional point guard, he's often played with the ball in his hands. He's capable of initiating offense but can be turnover prone when asked to be the primary handler. He excels at getting downhill, playing through contact to get paint touches, and snapping kick-out passes once he collapses the lane. He's also comfortable stopping for mid-range pull-ups, but an inconsistent three-point shooter with questionable, set-shot type, mechanics (30% 3pt in EYBL while averaging just one made three every two games).
Jeffrey is a very aggressive defender who gets after people on that end of the floor and is capable of forcing turnovers. His physical strength also gives him the versatility to switch onto bigger players, while he is also an excellent rebounding guard.
Overall, he may not have the most polished skill set or a ton of wiggle, but he's the type of player who raises the level of everyone around him and is consistently productive because of his physicality, toughness, motor, and aggressive two-way floor game."

With Kevin Willard largely focused on the transfer portal, Jeffrey is Maryland's lone commit in the 2025 class. But the Terps are also pursuing one of the nation's top available guards, a move Jeffrey is excited about.Emotions ran high when Mt. Zion took on NBA Africa Academy, a matchup that proved to be highly competitive and physical even after the buzzer sounded. Mt. Zion found themselves down, a team featuring Maryland signee Christian Jeffrey and ranked junior Favour Ibe.
When Mt. Zion needed someone to lead the charge, Jeffrey answered the call and took overusing his strength and power to get downhill and finish at the rim, seemingly at will.
NBA Africa had no answer for the four-star senior who also was able to dish out some assists and make a couple shots from deep.
Despite the tense environment, Jeffrey kept his cool all game long, never getting rattled, and his performance led Mt. Zion to have the final shot to win the game at the end.
Jeffrey was able to get downhill and get a good look at the rim but Africa's size and length impacted the shot that just missed, resulting in a very narrow defeat.
Jeffrey is as tough and strong as they come at the guard spot and showed some real leadership on the court on Sunday.

Christian Jeffrey's 247Sports Scouting Report:He had offers from Michigan, Tennessee and Texas A&M. Scouting sites anointed him as a combo guard, but Jeffrey said that Maryland coach Kevin Willard wants him to play point guard.
"I definitely see him at the one, just because of leadership ability and his ability to just change the game, not only by scoring or passing the ball, but defensively, like he's one of those kids that you know possesses some things that you don't see," Harrison said. "He has now, what it takes some guards to get into when they're seniors in college.
