ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten office today imposed a one-game suspension and issued a public reprimand of Penn State men's lacrosse student-athlete James Burke for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy during the Maryland game on April 4. Burke was suspended for kicking an opposing player during the second quarter, and will serve his one-game suspension on April 11 against Johns Hopkins.

The Big Ten determined that Burke's actions were in violation of Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01, which states in part that "The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials."

The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.
