I grew up closer to Northwestern than High Point in Langley Park, yet I was sent to High Point. HP and Northwestern played for the state title my senior year at HP. I knew Vernon Butler, not well, but enough to know he was a good kid. HP and Vernon survived against Northwestern and Lenny after Vernon drained a near mid-court prayer with his eyes closed if I recall correctly. A wow moment. I wondered today "what if I had gone to NW?" It would have been a shitty way to lose a game for my school. Lenny wasn't yet the star he became at Maryland. Vernon, God bless him, got the better of him that day. After recalling everything that went down after Lenny passed, and then his brother, I'm almost grateful I was sent to the school where some regarded me as trash because I lived in Langley Park. RIP Lenny and Jay!
