COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland head coach Michael Locksley announced the addition of kicker Gavin Marshall to the Terrapin football program on Wednesday.

Marshall, who has three years of eligibility remaining, joins the Terps after two seasons with the Sooners. After a redshirt year in 2022, Marshall saw action for Oklahoma this past season, connecting on both of his PAT attempts and handling kickoff duties three times.

The 6-foot-1, 193-pound kicker was rated as a five-star recruit in 2022 by Kohl’s Professional Camps. A Frisco, Texas native, Marshall attended Frisco High School for his freshman and sophomore seasons before transferring to IMG Academy in Florida in 2020 before returning to Frisco for his senior season.

While at IMG, Marshall made eight of his nine field goal attempts, including the two longest field goals in program history (47 & 49 yards). He also converted on all 60 of his PAT tries and 50 of his 67 kickoffs went for touchbacks.

The Terps have been in communication with Mississippi State guard Shakeel Moore.

The 6-foot-1 guard began his career at NC State and has been a part-time starter for the Bulldogs in each of the past two seasons. He averaged 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this past season while averaging 23.5 minutes per contest. He also made 29 threes while shooting a career-high 36% from beyond the arc.

While he's really more of an undersized two guard, he has the experience and the capability of backing up the point and obviously has a ton of HM experience, including NCAA experience each of the past two seasons. One thing he is capable of is creating for himself off the bounce, something that was absolutely missing with last season's team. He is also an excellent perimeter defender, as he's averaged 1.4 steals per game throughout his four-year career. So while he might not give you the big wing shooter you are looking for, he'd be a solid option to spell Gillespie when you need a proven guard that can defend and make some plays without needing a ton of minutes. And it is also worth noting that Maryland was in contact with Moore last offseason before he decided to stay put.

The obvious question here is why is he still available? He was seen as a guy looking for a starting role with increased minutes, but he's been in the portal for over two months now. Maybe he didn't have the starting options he was hoping for and is now ok with the idea of coming off the bench again. If that is the case, he could be a pretty decent fit for the Terps' final slot.

The Terps have landed a commitment from Baltimore (Md.) Mervo three-star WR Justin Devaughn following his official visit to Maryland this weekend. He chose the Terps over Minnesota, Cuse and others. Won the 110m hurdles at states and caught the winning touchdown in the state championship game last season. First one is now official and Shipps is on deck.

The first two B1G Saturday Night games will be Michigan vs. Fresno State on 8/31 and Nebraska vs. Colorado on 9/7.

Since we're hosting Michigan State on 9/7, pretty good chance we get the See-BS slot that week since NBC went with Neon Deion because I can't imagine the B1G allowing the first B1G Conference game being relegated to BTN. (Michigan is hosting Texas that day and already locked into Fox Big Noon).

The football recruiting dead period ended yesterday and recruits are now able to start taking campus visits.

Mentioned it in another thread last week, but the Terps will host Spalding DB Jayden Shipps this weekend. He's a top priority for the Maryland staff and they will look to get a commitment this weekend. As of now, he also has official visits slated for NC State and UVA the following weekends.

The Terps are also set to host Mervo WR Justin DeVaughn. The 6-foot, 160-pounder has a solid offer list that includes the likes of Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pitt, Syracuse and Virginia Tech. He's a speedster, having won the 4A state championship in the 110 hurdles. He also caught the winning touchdown in last year's 4A state title game. He's also scheduled to visit Minnesota next weekend.

Passed away from cancer battle at age 71. May he rest in peace.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Big Ten Conference and its television partners – BTN, CBS, FOX and NBC – have announced game times and television designations on Thursday for Maryland football's first three games of the 2024 season, as well as game time windows for two other games including the Terps' Homecoming game against USC on October 19.

Maryland will begin its 2024 season at home against UConn on August 31 with a Noon kickoff on FS1. This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the teams, with the Terps winning the last contest in 2013, 32-21.

The following week, Maryland will begin Big Ten play against Michigan State. The game will kickoff at SECU Stadium at 3:30 pm and be broadcast on Big Ten Network. It will mark the 15th all-time game between the Terps and Spartans with Maryland winning the last two.

The Terps will play their first road game on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Virginia. The battle between the former conference foes will kickoff at 8 pm and air on the ACC Network. Maryland has played Virginia in football 79 times, its most of any opponent in school history. The Terps are 45-32-2 all-time against the Cavaliers, including a 42-14 win in College Park last year.

Maryland also received kickoff window information for Homecoming games that it is involved in. The Terps will host USC for their annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 19 with the game to kickoff at Noon, 3:30 pm, 4 pm or 7:30 pm. It will mark the first all-time meeting between the new Big Ten foes.

The Terps will travel to Minnesota on Saturday, Oct. 26 for the Gophers Homecoming game that will kickoff at Noon, 3:30 pm or 4 pm. Television info and exact kick times for these Homecoming games will be chosen in the normal 12-/6-day selection process closer to the game date.

The 2024 season marks the first full year of the Big Ten’s new media rights agreements that provide unprecedented coverage and exposure for all league members with at least 55 games on broadcast networks throughout the season. This year also marks the first year that the Big Ten Football Championship Game will be played on CBS, as the network will present the first-ever matchup between No. 1 and No. 2 in the conference standings live from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at 8 pm ET on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Maryland is coming off a 2023 season in which it posted an 8-5 record and defeated Auburn, 31-13, in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl. The Terps, who have won bowl games in three straight seasons for the first time in school history, have the fifth most wins amongst all Big Ten teams (16) over the last two seasons.

Maryland returns four starters on the offensive side of the ball in 2024, including All-Big Ten selections in running back Roman Hemby and wide receivers Tai Felton and Kaden Prather. The high-powered Terrapins offense ranked Top 5 in the Big Ten in points per game (29.7), yards per game (387.3) and passing yards per game (278.9) last season.

Seven starters return for Maryland's defense, which allowed just 22.5 points per game in 2023, the fewest points allowed per game for a Terps defense since 2010 (22.2). Returners include Third-Team All-Big Ten selection Ruben Hyppolite II and Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection Quashon Fuller.

Even though I labeled the topic as OT, this is a topic that is very important for all men. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was very early in development. We went a year and did a second biopsy. The cancer had not changed since the first biopsy. I was 73 at that point. The doctor said that most people my age usually do “watchful waiting “. However, he said that I was healthier than most 60 year olds and that I might want to consider dealing with it now. I elected not to wait while this thing percolated in my body to deal with it asap. Now, 3 years later my PSA is 0.14 and am cancer free.
My point in this thread is to emphasize the importance of checking your PSA early (usually when you are 50) . Waiting too long to check it or ignoring symptoms can lead to the possibility of a more severe case.
As with any situation, early detection is the key. Get tested yearly.
