Jalen Smith/NBA free agency…

Starts tonight at 6:00. Jalen is free agent, coming off career-high shooting numbers on fgs (59.2%) and 3-point fgs (42.4%) and also ppg (9.9) He declined his $5.4M player option to enter free agency. Just completed 4th NBA season, expected to have no shortage of suitors given his ability to space the floor and block shots.

Big day today

Well, the day is finally here. Malik Washington will announce his commitment in just a few hours and the Terps are likely to pick up the biggest commitment of the Locksley era.

In my roughly decade of doing this, I would say Malik is the best athlete I've ever scouted. He might not be the best QB (although he is right at the top of the list) I've scouted, but best overall athlete I have little doubt. He has the size, the arm strength, the footwork, the IQ....everything you look for in a franchise QB. He also has all of the intangibles you look for at the position. He's a good kid, he's a tremendous leader and he's simply a winner.

Landing Washington would show that Locksley can reel in the big fish at the game's most important decision and also shows he can keep elite QB talent at home. A commitment from Washington is also very likely to help the Terps land other top prospects that they are right in the thick of things with.

Washington isn't the only Spalding Cavalier I expect to commit to the Terps today, either. As I mentioned a while back, I put in a FutureCast for Washington's high school teammate Jayden Shipps and I expect him to pick the Terps today, as well. I've also put in a FutureCast for a third Cavs player to commit today, defensive lineman Delmar White who picked up a camp offer earlier this month. White iis another two-sport standout who was The Capital newspaper's wrestler of the year last winter. He really impressed Locksley as well as defensive coordinator Brian Williams when he camped earlier this month and this could be a really sneaky good pickup. But to land two priority targets, including the top QB target from a local program led by a former Terp is a really big deal and hopefully they can keep this pipeline rolling.

Also committing today is Virginia wideout Jeff Overton, who officially visited Maryland a couple of weeks back. The Terps have a real shot here, while in-state Virginia Tech got the final visit. This is likely coming down to the Terps and Hokies.

Finally, McDonogh wideout Jeff Exinor is also committing today. The Terps did a fantastic job of rolling out the red carpet during his recent official visit and really gave him a lot to think about. That said, my sources still expect him to pick PSU later today.

WBB: Terps go 2-0 on Croatian tour

SPLIT, CROATIA -- The Maryland women’s basketball team dominated the second and final game of its Croatian Tour, 92-53, over All Star Split at Mala Dvorana S.C. Gripe in Split Sunday evening.

Freshman Breanna Williams led the Terrapins with 20 points, as she went 7-16 from the floor and 5-5 at the free throw line. Redshirt junior Saylor Poffenbarger added 14 points and 13 rebounds, while senior Shyanne Sellers added 15 points. Senior Christina Dalce scored 12 points and 11 boards.

Junior Bri McDaniel scored 11 points and graduate Sarah Te-Biasu added 10 points.

Poffenbarger scored the first 5 pts for Maryland, who started on an 8-0 run. Split went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, then sophomore Emily Fisher answered to give the Terps the lead for good.

Poffenbarger, Te-Biasu and Williams all hit threes in a key 16-2 run as Maryland led 24-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Maryland held on to a 45-31 lead at halftime, led by Poffenbarger and Williams with 11 points each.

The Terrapins led 55-34 with 6:13 left in the third quarter, then went on an 18-5 run to go up 63-36.

The Terps’ defense forced 29 turnovers and Maryland won the rebounding battle, 53-25.

Bryce Jenkins...

I asked around about Bryce Jenkins this morning and from what I can gather, it seems South Carolina has perhaps the most juice at the moment, but Maryland is right there with them. It seems like this one is very likely coming down to the Terps and Cocks and with AAR now back with the good guys, I really like the Terps' chances.

He's a guy I mentioned the Terps would have a real shot with when AAR was hired and it still seems to be tracking that way. I know Tennessee got the most recent official visit and some labeled them as the perceived leader, but this just feels like another Maryland-South Carolina battle. Not ready to FutureCast this one to the Terps just yet, but again, I'm trending that way with a decision expected a week from now. Maryland with all the momentum at the moment, especially with the locals.

OT: Orioles

Ok, admittedly I haven't really followed MLB much in recent years. That said, growing up I was a die hard O's fan and Cal Ripken was my idol.

Anyways, this year's O's team has me getting back into baseball again. They look like a legit playoff contender at the All-Star break and they are winning with all of this young talent and still seem to have a loaded farm system. For a guy who doesn't follow baseball that closely anymore, it sure seems like they are set up to be good for a long time.

So I figured I'd start a running general thread on the O's. I guess I'll start by asking the current die hards here their thoughts at the break.

What, if anything, do the O's still need to compete in October?

Thoughts on 1st Rd pick Bradfield Jr.? Seems like an old-school Kenny Lofton-type center field prospect. Any other picks you really like?

Any other general O's thoughts, post 'em here.

Ok, I'll hang up and listen now.

Terps land commitment from Florida three-star linebacker

The Terps have just landed a commitment from Fla. three-star linebacker Travares Daniels, who took his official visit to College Park this past weekend, was previously committed to Indiana.

Maryland continues to do well in the Sunshine State with Brian Williams, picking up another nice South Florida prospect with a nice offer list that included Georgia Tech, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and more.

Huge weekend of official visitors on tap for Maryland football

Huge football recruiting weekend on taop that includes a local Rivals100 DB with a close connection to AAR, Rivals250 QB Malik Washington, who's coming off of a strong showing out in L.A. at the Elite 11 and a bunch of other big-time prospects.

As far as possibly commits, Concordia three-star Sidney Stewart is definitely one to keep an eye on. Washington has a tentative commit date of June 28, but according to him two nights ago, he wasn't positive if it would be then or the day before/after July 4. Assume June 28 for now. And do not count them out with Woodby. AAR has made major inroads here and his presence on the staff gives them a real shot.
