As I suspected based on my social media sleuthing, Lanier is in talks with Kentucky and they are very much in the mix. David Sisk from the Kentucky site spoke with his mom last night and it sounds like Kentucky is right near the top of their list.

It is also worth noting, if 1st round is what they are shooting for, the fact he was not invited to the combine or the G League elite camp should all but assure he's coming back to school.

But while Maryland is involved in this one and I suspect is one of the few schools they know will be on his final list, all the chatter right now is this one becoming a Kentucky-Tennessee battle as things really start to heat up.

I just spoke with his mom. She said they have spoken with Mark Pope several times, and were impressed with him. She said she could tell he is a very energetic individual. She said they were also impressed with him player development plan. They are going to be looking at things like that and need for next season.

Currently he is also in the NBA Draft. He has until May 29 to make the decision. Ms. Lanier stated that the goal is to go in the first round, but they are working "simultaneously" between the draft and looking at schools. Reading between the lines I think going to a place that could help him prepare for the draft next year will be big. She said they are working on a list, and are doing their homework, but are not doing it on everybody who has contacted. I believe they know a few of the schools that will be on it, and I do think there is some excitement there about Kentucky. We did not discuss any other schools.

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland women’s basketball team head coach Brenda Frese signed the Terrapins’ seventh transfer, Mir McLean, this week.


McLean, a Baltimore native, heads to Maryland after playing the end of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons at Virginia, after starting her career at UConn. She averaged 11.8 points and 9.0 rebounds in 26 games at Virginia before suffering a knee injury.
"We are excited to add some great ladies to our program this off-season,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “It's truly been a ton of hard work and a team effort from our staff, academic advisor and support staff. In addition, I want to thank Athletic Director, Damon Evans and Deputy AD, Colleen Sorem for their unwavering support of me and our program. It matters. COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland head coach Michael Locksley has announced the addition of punter Bryce McFerson to the Terrapin football program on Friday.

McFerson, who has three years of eligibility remaining, joins the Terps after serving as Notre Dame’s primary punter during the 2023 season.

An Indian Trail, North Carolina native, McFerson booted 38 punts this past season for the Irish and averaged 45.1 yards per kick. He connected on 13 punts of 50 yards or more in 2023, including twice blasting career-long punts of 59-yards against N.C. State and in Notre Dame’s bowl win over Oregon State. McFerson placed five punts inside the 20 with just two touchbacks.

McFerson served as Notre Dame’s primary holder for field goals and extra points during the second half of the 2023 season. He also excels in kickoffs as 63 of his 67 attempts while at Metrolina Christian Academy went for touchbacks during his senior season.

McFerson was the top-ranked punter in the country by 247 Sports and Chris Sailer Kicking coming out of high school. He was rated as the No. 5 kicker/punter in the country by ESPN and was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.

Maryland has an in-home visit scheduled with Clemson transfer guard Alex Hemenway.

The 6-foot-4 guard spent five seasons at Clemson, but only played in 25 games over the past two seasons due to a foot injury. He started 12 games two seasons ago and averaged 6.9 points, 1.8 boards and 1.1 assists per game. Most importantly, he shot 47% from three with 33 makes in limited minutes. He's 80-for-185 (43%) from beyond the arc over the past three seasons. Basically when he's in the game it is strictly to shoot threes. I'm guessing they got a good look at him down in Asheville, where he scored 9 points in the title game versus Davidson.

He has a visit to Vanderbilt scheduled, while Rutgers and Indiana are also involved.

The good news here is I can now say for sure they have at least one backup plan for Lanier. My guess is there are more, we just aren't privy to who they are yet.

From the national team. Not really much to discuss here, as the Terps have had a relatively quiet portal window season.

With that said, look for the Terps to add another OL, as they are in desperate need of bodies up front. They lost out on the Arkansas transfer who just committed to another school yesterday, but they hosted Liberty starting RT Chase Mitchell the other day and they look to be in a pretty good spot to possibly land a commitment in the near future. He also visited USC, but Maryland likely gives him the best path to starting at the P4 level. Again, would be a solid pickup as they really need help up front heading into fall camp as injuries and such are bound to happen. It is also tough this time of year as there isn't really a lot out there in the portal and everyone has needs, so to land someone with starting experience is huge.

ROSEMONT, IL – The Big Ten Conference office announced the 2024-25 women's basketball series match ups on Tuesday afternoon.

Maryland will play a home-and-home series with Ohio State. The Terps will also host conference newcomers USC and UCLA, as well as Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Rutgers. The Terrapins will make road trips to Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Washington and Oregon.

Big Ten women’s basketball will play an 18-game conference schedule. Each team will play 16 single-game opponents (eight home/eight away) and one home and away opponent.

Maryland's non-conference schedule as well as game dates, times, and television assignments will be announced at a later date.

Season tickets for the 2024-25 season are now on sale HERE and start at $99 for general admission seats.

Maryland returns All-Big Ten honorees Shyanne Sellers and Bri McDaniel, as well as Emily Fisher, Emma Chardon and Allie Kubek for the 2024-25 season. The Terrapins also welcome three incoming freshmen in Ava McKennie (McSherrystown, Pa.), Breanna Williams (Billings, Mon.) and Kyndal Walker (Beltsville, Md.).

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland men's lacrosse student-athletes Ajax Zappitello and Luke Wierman were both selected in the 2024 Premier Lacrosse League Draft on Tuesday night.

Zappitello went third overall to the Maryland Whipsnakes, making it the second straight year the Terps have had a close defenseman go No. 3 (Brett Makar, Atlas LC).

Wierman was the first pick of the fourth round, No. 25 overall, by the Denver Outlaws. He was the lone faceoff specialist selected in the draft.

Maryland now has 73 total professional outdoor lacrosse draftees and has had at least one first-round pick in three consecutive drafts.

Zappitello joins a long lineage of former Terps playing professionally with the Whipsnakes, leading into the first year the Whipsnakes will call the state of Maryland home. A three-year starter for one of the nation’s top defenses, Zappitello has a reputation as arguably the top close defenseman in the game. The 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player’s 68 career caused turnovers are good for a tie for tenth in program history. Through 58 career games, the two-time All-American has also totaled five goals, five assists, and 86 groundballs.

Wierman will join a newly rebranded Denver Outlaws that features several hardshells including Jesse Bernhardt and Logan Wisnauskas. Wierman has rewrote the Maryland record books, holding the program record in career faceoffs won (809) as well as in season faceoff wins (298, 2022) and faceoffs taken (451, 2022). A three-time All-Big Ten honoree and two-time All-American, Wierman currently sits second in program history in career groundballs with 433. Across 58 career games, Wierman has 13 goals, 15 assists and 19 caused turnovers.

Zappitello, Wierman, and the rest of the seventh-seeded Terps kick off NCAA Tournament action on Saturday, May 11 when they host Princeton at 7:30 pm at SECU Stadium. The game will air on ESPNU.

From Rob Cassidy, Team Thrill guard Chance Mallory is mentioned, as are the Terps.

The latest news here is that Tyler Jackson is no longer with Team Thrill and is now playing with Team Melo on the EYBL circuit. So Mallory and Jackson no longer share the same backcourt. The Terps seem to be in decent shape early on for Jackson, while I've always felt Mallory would likely end up at UVA. But one thing is clear, these two will not be playing together this summer and will not be going to the same college. So while I wouldn't completely write off Mallory, Jackson seems to be the one to monitor more closely in the coming months.

Jackson is a dynamic scoring guard that can play both on and off the ball and would fit nicely with a guard like Gillespie.

I know, I know, way too early, rosters aren't even set yet, but Joe Lunardi released his initial NCAA bracket projections of all 68 teams for 2025 yesterday, which included the Terps. He has them as an 8 seed playing this year's surprise Final Four team NC State in the opening round.

It is also worth nothing, that while some teams like Kentucky and Arkansas aren't even included here, this was also released befre Miguel committed, which should see the Terps continue to climb in some of these preseason exercises. More at the link.

Welp, Alabama stretch forward Sam Walters is currently on a visit to Michigan! This is after they just landed Yale transfer Danny Wolf, Auburn transfer Tre Donaldson, will be adding FAU 7-footer Vlad Goldin and have a shot at landing St. Mary's scoring guard Aidan Mahaney. And they are still trying to figure out a work around for Johnell Davis. They could end up the preseason favorite to win the league at the rate they are going.

Indiana landed Stanford guard Kanaan Carlyle to go along with Washington State point guard Myles Rice. Both were all-league and were only freshmen last season. They also added the top big man in the portal in Arizona's Oumar Ballo. They suddenly look like a top 3 or 4 team in the league next year also, with Reneau and Mgbako both back.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland men's lacrosse team (8-5) has received the seventh overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament and will face Princeton in its First Round game.

The Terps will host the Tigers on Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 pm. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and played in College Park at SECU Stadium.

Princeton (11-4) is an automatic qualifier into the tournament by way of winning the Ivy League Conference. The Tigers are making their third consecutive tournament appearance and 23rd overall. Maryland holds a 35-12-1 advantage against Princeton all-time, including a 13-7 win overall this season and a 13-8 win in the 2022 NCAA Tournament Semifinal.

The Terrapins are making their 46th NCAA Tournament appearance and NCAA-best 21st straight.

Tillman's 13 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances is the longest-ever streak for a Maryland coach, increasing his lead over the legendary Bud Beardmore's nine-tournament streak from 1971-79. The Terps have been to nine NCAA semifinals in 11 full seasons (2011-12, 2014-18, 2021, 2022) under Tillman, including seven national title game appearances and two championships.

The winner of Maryland's first round matchup will advance to face the winner of Duke/Utah in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Hofstra in Hempstead, NY on Saturday, May 18.
