OT: Men’s Health

Even though I labeled the topic as OT, this is a topic that is very important for all men. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was very early in development. We went a year and did a second biopsy. The cancer had not changed since the first biopsy. I was 73 at that point. The doctor said that most people my age usually do “watchful waiting “. However, he said that I was healthier than most 60 year olds and that I might want to consider dealing with it now. I elected not to wait while this thing percolated in my body to deal with it asap. Now, 3 years later my PSA is 0.14 and am cancer free.
My point in this thread is to emphasize the importance of checking your PSA early (usually when you are 50) . Waiting too long to check it or ignoring symptoms can lead to the possibility of a more severe case.
As with any situation, early detection is the key. Get tested yearly.

***Maryland Men’s Lax National Champioship Game Thread***

We're about 45 minutes from opening faceoff between the Terps and Irish in Philly.

Obviously, Notre Dame beat the Terps earlier this season, but Maryland has looked like a completely different team in the NCAA tourney, having exploded for 16 goals vs. Princeton, beating Duke and then doubling up UVA while holding them to just 6 goals.

This run has been all about Weirman and McNaney. When you dominate at the faceoff X and you get big saves, it leads to a more confident offense that gets more good scoring opportunities. Tillman and Phipps have done a tremendous job of getting this offense back on track late in the season.

This team played one of the toughest schedules in the country, has the best close defender in the game and most importantly, they have CHAMPIONSHIP playoff experience. Unfortunately, so too does Notre Dame, as they are defending national champs. This should be a great game and the Irish better not take the Terps lightly or they will be watching Maryland hold the championship trophy for the 2nd time in 3 years.

Remember, NOON start today as they are expecting heavy thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region today. Game is on ESPN.

Top prospects still available in hoops transfer portal

From Rob Cassidy, Maryland is mentioned with Ken Evans Jr. of Jackson State. He's the one I mentioned several days ago who the Terps have been linked to but doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Was SWAC player of the year and did make 60-plus threes while shooting 39% from distance, but are there enough minutes to go around for a guy who's used to playing 35-plus per game?

Chaz Lanier also mentioned, but as I've said, Terps aren't even involved at this point. Kentucky, Tennessee and BYU are the three teams he is considering. More at the link.

Hmmmm

So MD baseball had a new coach this year with a team coming off a 2 year B1G title.

State Penn has a new coach of a team in a constant baseball oblivion.

We were swept in 3 in the most important last series of the year by that other first-year coach and we are sitting at home while State Penn has just won its first two games of the B1G tourney..

Hmmmm, coaching.,

Sorry, Hue will not be happy

Maryland Football's Home Game Against Northwestern Moved to Friday, Oct. 11

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland football's 2024 home game against Northwestern will be played on Friday, Oct. 11 at SECU Stadium, it was announced on Wednesday.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, will kickoff at 8 p.m. and be broadcast on FOX.

Maryland has recorded victories in four of its last five games played on Friday, including a 42-14 thrashing of Virginia at home last season. The Terps defeated the Wildcats, 31-24, the last time the teams played in College Park in 2022.

Maryland is coming off a 2023 season in which it posted an 8-5 record and defeated Auburn, 31-13, in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl. The Terps, who have won bowl games in three straight seasons for the first time in school history, have the fifth most wins amongst all Big Ten teams (16) over the last two seasons.

Maryland returns four starters on the offensive side of the ball in 2024, including All-Big Ten selections in running back Roman Hemby and wide receivers Tai Felton and Kaden Prather. The high-powered Terrapins offense ranked Top 5 in the Big Ten in points per game (29.7), yards per game (387.3) and passing yards per game (278.9) last season.

Seven starters return for Maryland's defense, which allowed just 22.5 points per game in 2023, the fewest points allowed per game for a Terps defense since 2010 (22.2). Returners include Third-Team All-Big Ten selection Ruben Hyppolite II and Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection Quashon Fuller.
