ROSEMONT, IL – Junior Shyanne Sellers of the Maryland women's basketball team was named to the All-Big Ten Preseason Team Wednesday.

Sellers, an All-Big Ten honoree last year, is Maryland's leading returning scorer after averaging 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists last year. She scored in double figures in 28 of her 35 games played on the year.

Last season, Sellers was named to the All-Big Ten First Team by the league's media panel and to the Second Team by the head coaches. She was also named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team. Sellers was named the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year and to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2022.

The Terrapins were picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten by both the league's head coaches and media panel. Both groups picked Iowa to win the conference. The coaches selected Ohio State to finish second and Indiana to finish third with Illinois rounding out the top five.

The media panel selected Indiana to finish second, Ohio State third and Michigan fifth.

The Terrapins will play four of the other seven Elite Eight teams from the 2023 NCAA Tournament this season. The Terps will play non-conference matchups at South Carolina (Nov. 12) and at UConn (Nov. 16). They will host Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Ohio State on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the XFINITY Center. Maryland will make a return trip to Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 25.

After being picked to finish fourth in the league last year, the Terrapins finished 28-7 overall and 15-3 in league to finish tied for second. Maryland advanced to the program's 15th Elite Eight and first since 2015. The Terrapins picked up nine wins over ranked teams, including five over top 10 opponents.

Head coach Brenda Frese welcomes back All-Big Ten First Team honoree Shyanne Sellers, key returners Faith Masonius, Lavender Briggs, Brinae Alexander and Bri McDaniel from last year's Elite Eight squad. Maryland also welcomes five newcomers in NC State graduate transfer Jakia Brown-Turner and incoming freshmen Summer Bostock, Hawa Doumbouya, Emily Fisher and Riley Nelson. Emma Chardon and Allie Kubek will return from injuries.

Season tickets for the 2023-24 season are now on sale at umterps.com.
