Spoke with a source yesterday who tells me that they believe Maryland is in the final group of schools to land Michigan transfer Colin Castleton.

Castleton, a Daytona Beach native, spent the past two seasons in Ann Arbor, playing sparingly as a freshman and seemingly falling out of favor with new head coach Juwan Howard this past season. Castleton averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while averaging just under 8 minutes of action per contest as a sophomore. He shot 54% from the field, 84.8% from the FT line and blocked 13 shots this past season.

At 6-foot-11, Castleton is a pretty fluid athlete and moves his feet well. In high school he really showed off his ability to face up and put the ball on the floor as well as shoot the three. He would likely fit in nicely as a replacement for Stix. He's also added about 20 lbs since he arrived at Michigan.

Castleton, a four-star and Rivals150 prospect out of high school, originally committed to former Michigan head coach John Beilein and he has a connection to Maryland, as current Terps assistant Deandre Haynes was on the Michigan staff during Castleton's freshman season. He originally chose Michigan over offers from Florida, Illinois and more.

Immediately after announcing he would be transferring, Castleton heard from schools such as Butler, Cincinnati, Dayton, Florida, NC State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Xavier and dozens more.

According to a source, Dayton and Maryland recently did Zoom visits with Castleton and are believed to be two of the schools most likely to land a commitment.

If the one-time transfer rule is tabled or passes and does not go into effect until after the 2020-2021 season, Castleton would have to sit a year and have two years of eligibility remaining. If the one-time transfer rule is to pass later next month and go into effect immediately, the Terps could conceivably have a 6-foot-11 big man ready to go that they could plug in to replace Jalen Smith.

Do want to be clear, Castleton has gone radio silent of late and does not appear to be speaking to anyone. But my source is very confident that Maryland and Dayton are two of the schools squarely in the mix and a decision could possibly come as early as this week.
